Review highlights
Based on 6,491 reviewsRestaurant La Buche is widely praised for its authentic Québécois cuisine, delivering classic dishes such as tourtière, poutine, and shepherd’s pie with flavorful and comforting touches. Reviewers commonly highlight the warm, homey atmosphere and attentive, friendly service that enhance the dining experience. The unique and whimsical bathroom décor adds an unexpected charm, often noted as a memorable detail. While the menu is celebrated for its creativity and quality, some feedback mentions occasional inconsistencies in preparation, and pricing is considered on the higher side but justifiable given the location and overall experience. Outdoor seating is appreciated during warmer seasons, making it a popular choice among both locals and visitors seeking genuine Quebecois flavors in a cozy setting.
I visited Quebec for my birthday in April and was delighted to find this restaurant, which was not only recommended to me but also conveniently located just down the block from my hotel. The atmosphere was charming, the food was delicious, and the customer service was excellent. What truly stood out was the unique and creative bathroom settings, which added a touch of whimsy to the overall experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in Quebec.
Food: 4/5 - I had the popular Quebec meat tourtiere that came with a salad. Some of the pieces of meat in the pie were dry tasting but overall tasty. It was a cold day to have a hot pie to satisfy the soul. Service: 5/5 - server was friendly Atmosphere:5/5 a homey and comfy vibe to the place. It’s a popular place so get there early. There is a cute patio area to dine outside on nicer days.
We had a great experience at La Buche. We had the onion soup, the scallops and the shepherd's pie which were all outstanding. Sugar pie was also amazing! If you like sangria, try the sangria with Kariboo (an authentic alcoholic Quebecois drink). The waiter was really friendly and gave us tips on what to try. Don't forget to see the washroom too, it's very funky.
We got the poutine to start, la pate chinois (shepherd’s pie) and the beef patty with mashed potatoes. Maple whiskey gravy was very unique on the poutine and the main dishes were also delicious. Quebecers sure know how to make their poutine and it was a the best one we had on our trip. Staff were super accommodating and although price was a bit on the higher end, it was expected due to location and totally worth it. Would definitely eat here again - merci bcp!
Our dining experience was amazing! Our server was very friendly and helpful. The food we had was delicious. The desserts were a highlight. We would definitely go back!
My family and I ate dinner there last night. AMAZING food, service and atmosphere. Best hamburger (la boulette a mamie) my son ever had and best ribs I’ve ever had! Our server was very friendly and efficient. He even gave us a marker so we could sign our name on the window frame near our table. LOVED the decor, the quaint looking menu (looked like a school notebook) and even the restroom! We will definitely return!
Both brunch and dinner were top notch. Speedy service despite being busy. Exceptionally attentive and friendly wait-staff. Great atmosphere with funky decor. Would highly recommend for families! They really went above and beyond to take care of guests! Thank you!
We had chosen La Buche for its Quebecois cuisine. When we arrived for dinner the Restaurant was very well attended but we where seated right away because we had requested a reservation (which I highly recommend) on their website, a very easy form, just fill in name and pick available reservation slot. Expect an email confirmation. The restaurant has a Quebec charm. The very attending waiter quickly took our order and despite the very busy kitchen the food arrived quickly and hot. For our first course we had the French Onion soup and it was exquisite. As my main course I had the huge Smoked Trout Salad and it had been a great choice. I was able to have a taste of the Tortierre from my companion and it was very tasty. Lastly, as dessert we ordered their specialty: "The Poor-Mans Pie" and it had been anything but poor. A warm Maple Sponge Cake creation topped with their home-made vanilla ice cream and it was wunderbar. The dish is big enough to share. I highly recommend La Buche as a great choice for a Quebecois experience.
